A Kitset Home = A Great Family Project!

Over the years we’ve had a number of kitsets bought by clients whose families are fully supportive and keen to get involved in the house building adventure ahead.  That’s the beauty of a kitset, it’s often achieved the Kiwi way, with many friends and family rolling up their sleeves and getting stuck in.

Whether it be pitching in with the actual build itself, or with tasks like project management, painting, landscaping and more, everyone can play a part!  So when we were approached earlier this year by Kyle Smith and heard about his story and his family’s involvement, we knew it was going to be a special project.

Kyle Smith is a professional triathlete from New Zealand. Raised in the UK, he moved to Taupo with his family when he was 12 years old, discovered triathlon and set about becoming one of the best in the world.

Whether it be World Triathlon short course racing, off-road XTERRA triathlon, middle distance non-drafting events, or Ironman, Kyle has succeeded at every level and phenomenally ranked 3rd in 2024 in the PTO (Professional Triathlete Organisation) world rankings and also finished 2nd in T100 World series (2024)!

His build is a family affair with his dad David, a bricklayer by trade, and his mum Gillian, who works in community development, both fully involved in the project.  Partner and ex-pro cyclist, Keira, has also been on the tools, as well as being a talented content creator so is capturing each stage of the build.

And finally Kyle, who is no stranger to hard work and is well equipped for the project having spent countless hours working alongside his dad to fund the early years of his triathlon dream with costly equipment, training, flights, and entry fees requiring grit and determination.

Kyle is stoked to be building his dream home in Taupō, his home town and a place he adores with its mountains, lake, laid back lifestyle and friendly community.  He has chosen the Hamlet kitset, currently the largest kitset at 279m2, perfect for both relaxing and entertaining in style.

We can’t wait to share more about this special project, stay tuned to see it come to life!
